Every year my family and I make it a must to travel all together for some new discoveries in different countries. Earlier this year, in May, we set out for an Asian trip starting from Malaysia to Phuket, Bangkok and Singapore. And today, I’m here in a very nostalgic state of mind, comfortably seated on my couch, thinking about all the awesome moments we spent in Phuket, Thailand! It is one of the most desired tourist destination around the world with its numerous attractions at a quite affordable price compared to other countries. Somebody said it right; investing on experiences is never a waste! Here is a list of things you should do in Phuket if this Thai island is on your travel bucket list:
- Make sure to spend a day at Phi Phi island
Beach lovers, brace yourselves! This is the number one place you would want to visit as soon as you land in Phuket! Set out early on a boat trip to Phi Phi Island and contemplate the beauty of nature with the cliffs rising from the water and greeneries everywhere! It was simply an amazing experience, visiting all the surrounding islands and the famous heavenly Maya bay. It is ideal for snorkeling and a good swim.
- Be amazed by Phuket Big Buddha
It is the most peaceful place I’ve ever been to. The only sounds which could be heard were the tinkling of small bells and the prayers of the devoted Buddhists. The giant Buddha stands tall on the top of the Nakkerd Hills. It is easily seen from far away and is one of the places where you can admire the beautiful views of Phuket. It is a must-see place as it is considered as the landmark of Phuket.
- Have some fun at Bangla road
Contrary to Phuket Big Buddha, Bangla road is the noisiest place I’ve been to! Well, not in a negative way though. It is a place full of life with smiling faces everywhere! The perfect venue for clubbers! The fun starts at night with clubs on both sides of the road and tourists everywhere. However, an open mind and a sense of humor are prerequisites if you want to enjoy yourself.
- Visit some felines at Phuket Tiger Kingdom
This one might not be to everyone’s taste but for me, it was such a thrilling experience. It was my first time being so close to tigers. Usually, I see them in cages but this time I was in the cage with a full squad of four big tigers. No joke guys! I went along with the guide and my sister. We were both shaking as contrary to what we thought, the tigers were very active and walking around. The guide managed to make one sit and allowed us to pat the wild cat and pose next to it. It was quite scary I must say but I loved it! Don’t worry, if you prefer to play it safe and be with the cubs, you’ll have this option too.
- Ride the elephants
Elephants are such lovely animals! I loved my encounter with them in Phuket. Having a friendly nature, you will surely be under their charm at first sight. It was the first time I was so close to such a huge animal. Elephant trekking is very famous in Thailand and it’s an awesome and unique adventure in the wild. However make sure to choose where you do it so as to ensure your safety.
- Try some street foods
Whenever I visit a country, I don’t only go for famous tourist attractions but I also love to discover the local culture and traditions. There is nothing better than trying street food for that. Well, you should ensure that the place is clean and the food are fresh though (you don’t wanna get sick). I went to the food market near Patong which was close to my hotel and tried some of the delicious seafood available there. They were so tasty and what’s great is that the food you choose to eat is grilled in front of you. During my days there, I enjoyed some exquisite prawns, squid, fish, lobster and even the stingray (my first time eating that and it was really good!). Oh and also the Thai foods of course! I absolutely love the authentic Thai Tom yam soup, it’s my favorite soup!
- Mesmerizing viewpoints
Among the various viewpoints to further explore the spectacular views of Phuket, the Karon viewpoint is one of the most popular. This place is perfectly located to give you some breathtaking views of the Karon Beaches. It is the perfect spot to admire the exotic side of the island with its sparking blue sea and white-sand beaches.
- Get transported to another world with Phuket Fantasea
So sad that I missed this one! It’s known as the island’s biggest show with trapeze artists, a cast of hundreds, performing elephants and other animals. All these with an exotic storyline that blends the Thai tradition with fantasy. Sounds like a wonderful evening to enjoy among family or friends! Next time when I visit Phuket, I will surely go there (hopefully).
- Visit the famous James Bond island
It is the famous place where the James Bond movie ‘the man with the golden gun’ was shot. This area is known for its signature rocky pinnacle which is indeed spectacular. Well, it is one of the main tourist attractions in Phuket. Being a beach girl, I simply love it!
- Learn more about Buddhism at Wat Chalong
There is no better spiritual place than the Wat Chalong temples in Phuket. It is known as one of Phuket’s most important temples, visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year. I was so impress by the beauty of this place. It is beautifully decorated with infinite reflections from hundreds of tiny glass pieces and several pagodas. You’ll be surely amazed by this spiritual center of Phuket. However, make sure to dress decently when you go there, no shorts or miniskirts!
