Exfoliating is an essential step in the skin care regime. Not only does it slough away dead skin cells but also unclogs the oil and dirt that live in the pores, leading to breakouts. It is recommended to exfoliate the skin at least once a week. One thing which is clear is that the scrubs we buy at the stores do not cost only a penny and on top of this, they are usually made of laboratory-concocted ingredients with unknown benefits. So why not use some simple ingredients from your kitchen for a custom made exfoliator? Easy to make and very effective. I’ve been making my own exfoliator since long and I prefer doing this than buying it at the store.
- Coconut & sugar scrub
You only need 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 2 tablespoon of sugar, stir it up and it’s ready! A simple scrub to make when you are running out of time.
- Sugar, Lemon Juice & Honey
Combine: ½ teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of sugar and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to make a nourishing scrub.
- Coffee & Olive oil
Combine 1 tablespoon of ground coffee with one tablespoon of olive oil and it’s done! Note that coffee has anti-inflammatory effects and can boost collagen production. The olive oil will leave your skin feeling smooth and moisturized.
- Oatmeal, Salt & Olive oil
Mix 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal, ¼ tablespoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to obtain your scrub. This one is ideal for those with sensitive skin due to its gentle nature.
- Cocoa, vanilla extract, sugar & olive oil
Mix 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, ¼ cup of brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of olive oil and here you go! A really sweet and smooth scrub!
How to apply your scrub?
Lather the paste generously onto clean face, rub gently doing upward movements on the skin for about 2 minutes and rinse with warm water. As simple as that!
