10 things to do to get glowing skin

Let’s face the truth: you can wear the best outfit ever or the trendiest Jimmy Choo heels but if the skin is not right, nothing is right. Flawless skin doesn’t come overnight, it depends heavily on a healthy lifestyle. Basically, what you eat reflects on your face and your skin care routine also plays a role.

Let me share my personal experience with you: there was a time when I used to have breakouts on my face which made me feel horrible. It was very much embarrassing for me as it was hard to get rid of. It could be concealed only with heavy make-up which I certainly didn’t like. So I rushed to a dermatologist who gave me the most precious piece of advice about how to take care of my skin and recommended some useful creams that really worked for my skin. And guess what, after one month, my skin problem was solved.

Here are some essential tips for healthy skin:

  1. Lots of H20

We’ve heard it over and over again: drink lots of water. Water can do wonders to your body and skin. It helps drain out all the toxins which lead to unhealthy skin. I personally drink 10 – 12 glasses of water every day to keep my skin hydrated. It is essential as dehydration causes wrinkles and dry skin.

  1. More veggies and fruits

Vegetables and fruits contain a good amount of vitamins and minerals important for the skin. So dump these junk food and replace them with a healthier diet including plenty of colors you will only get from fruits and veggies.

  1. Omega 3 and Antioxidants

Proper intake of omega 3 will help you get that glowing look. Some food containing Omega 3 are sardines, salmon, walnuts, soybeans among others. Usually I take fish oil, cod liver. Food rich in anti-oxidants also have positive effects on the skin. It protects the skin from the damaging effects of the sun and fights fine lines and wrinkles. Green tea is a great source of antioxidant.

  1. Use a moisturizer depending on your skin type

Hydrating the skin surface is as important as keeping the body hydrated. It is advised to use a moisturizer in your skincare routine to keep the skin looking radiant. Not moisturizing the skin properly can lead to dryness which is the major cause for wrinkles. I’ve been using ‘Ducray’ as a night cream, a French brand and since then, I cannot spend a day without it. I love the light texture of this cream.

  1. Use a sunscreen

The sun can have devastating effects on the skin. UVB is responsible for sunburns while UVA causes long term skin problems such as wrinkles and premature aging. Choosing the SPF (Sun protection factor) depends on how long you will likely be exposed to the sun. I currently use ‘Avene’ SPF 50 which is a tinted sunscreen which combines with your natural complexion for a glowy look.

  1. Always remove your make up

Make-up is awesome, isn’t it? However, removing all the layers on the face can be a tedious task for many of us. Yet, it is one of the most crucial step in the beauty regime which leaves the skin looking fresh and clean. Don’t ever make the mistake to sleep with your make up on girls! This could lead to premature aging of the skin, blemishes, blackheads and pimples. Removing the make-up allows the skin to breathe and avoid all kinds of skin problems.

  1. Do not pop your pimples

Some people cannot resist the temptation of squeezing the pimples on their face which appear from time to time, especially when there is a special occasion coming. Popping the pimple can lead to more pimples and can cause the pimple to become swollen and infected, which lead to permanent scarring. Dermatologists advise it is best to leave the pimple run through its life span.

  1. Apply a facial mask

Applying facial masks have various benefits such as deep cleansing, unclog pores and leading to glowing skin. It is essential to apply facial masks according to your skin type as every skin texture differs. Usually exfoliation is done prior to the mask. Personally, I prefer homemade masks which are made of natural ingredients such as turmeric, lemon, yoghurt, and honey among others. I also make my own exfoliation using honey, sugar and coconut oil. It leaves the skin feeling soft.

  1. Clean make up brushes

Make-up blushes are the magic wands of the whole process of applying make-up. However, it is essential to clean these brushes once a while, especially if you have sensitive skin. This is because the make-up brushes tend to collect dust, dirt and bacteria which can prove to be harmful to the skin.

  1. A good night sleep

Last one and my favorite is the good night sleep which we need for amazing skin. It is proven that sleeping 8 hours can be very beneficial to the skin. It can be considered as a rejuvenating treatment. Many face products work best overnight as they penetrate the skin better when we are at rest leaving luminous look in the morning. So make sure to get your beauty sleep daily for a perfect skin!
